“People discuss my art and pretend to understand as if it were necessary to understand, when it’s simply necessary to love”

The saying by Claude Monet, who brightly celebrated his birthday on this day many years ago, could relate to the whole impressionist movement. It emerged in France in the middle of the nineteenth century and within a few years grew to the art movement which traits were to be found both in music and literature.

A passionate, energetic, full of emotions young Monet wasn’t ready to dig into the past. He wanted the art to be born again. The art is not the place for the boring snobs, but for those, who think big, who don’t see the restrictions, but the possibilities.

There is nothing that he loved more than color and his paintings prove it.

” Color is my day-long obsession, joy and torment”

Having lived a long life, he created a big collection of  his own world.  Seen with eyes and created with the heart.

Impression, Sunrise,

I won’t state that Monet is my favourite artist, but his desire to establish his vision of art can’t but fascinate. Together with his colleagues Renoir, Dega and later Sezanne, he started the unexpectedly rich change of the art that rapidly developed.

If you are in Paris and you think that you saw everything that the city offers, drop in at The Musée Marmottan and enjoy the largest collection of Monet’s paintings and share your impressions… with me for example 🙂
